"Fleece Mommy Dad!" ("Feliz Navidad" as sung by Cael, Christmas 2014)

Cael fully embraced the joy of the Christmas season this year and it was a ton of fun to watch his excitement.

He loved Christmas lights and made nightly requests to drive around our neighborhood a little longer to take in all of the twinkling.  He fell in love with Christmas music and happily sang along every time he heard Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer and Feliz Navidad.  We read nightly Christmas books and enjoyed many fun Christmas activities.

The little guy was totally primed and ready for present opening when the big day arrived.  He even got some assistance from Scrappy ...

... until she finally was able to get her paws on her own gift.

Santa came through with Cael's requested "monkey slippers with brown on them and ears and a monkey costume with brown on it with ears" ... he was ecstatic :)

He finally worked his way around to what he thought was the big present ...

... and found a new ride that is causing quite the buzz in the cul de sac.

Then he found out that the best present was actually in the Mickey Mouse gift bag.  In that bag Cael found a bunch of loot that he'll be bringing on a trip to Disney World.  Even though he didn't really understand what Disney World was, knowing that he was going to meet THE mouse was enough for Cael to know that this was a very good surprise!

He's been sleeping with stuffed Mickey and planning out what to bring on his Disney adventure.  We've been learning about other Disney characters and talking about which ones he might meet.  And, of course, he can't wait to ride on the planes, buses and monorails that will take us to and from the fun ... we could probably skip the parks and he would still love the trip based on transportation alone.  We're looking forward to the Disney excitement that awaits us in Florida.

There were many wonderful moments on Christmas but one of my favorites was when Cael gave his dad the present he picked for him.  He was very excited when we initially chatted about finding a present for his #1 guy.  We talked about all sorts of ideas but Cael suggested a flashlight and thought that would be perfect.

We spent quite some time in the flashlight aisle of Target as Cael discussed the pros and cons of every flashlight he could reach.  He settled on one that also had a red emergency beacon option that he thought his dad might want to take camping.  Such a sweet boy.  He also picked out the wrapping ... a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bag, of course.

The time came to give his dad his special gift and he "generously" helped him open it ;)

I loved Cael's excitement as he showed his dad all of the cool flashlight features.  Seeing his joy in giving was my favorite part of the day.

And this perfect Christmas afternoon snooze was a close second ... bad picture but beautiful nap!

Christmas came to a nice close but we still had one last holiday celebration.  We spent New Year's Eve with our neighbors, never anticipating that any members of our little family would see the official start to 2015.  Cael's had a blast at his first NYE party.  Any event that involves other people's toys, homemade popcorn ...

... and a good movie is a fantastic time in Cael's opinion.

Suddenly we looked at the clock and were quickly closing in on midnight.  For a couple minutes we didn't think the little guy would make it ...

... but he rallied and welcomed 2015 like a champ.

I think he's still catching up on his lost sleep!  Speaking of sleep, Cael has developed a new bedtime habit that has brought us many good laughs in the past couple of weeks.  He started taking a book to bed and we weren't surprised when we found him snoozing with said book.

But we began to find him in funnier and funnier "mid-read" positions ...

and tonight was the very best yet ... so so so cute.

We're all trying to catch a little extra rest before our big trip to see Mickey!
