Spring has Sprung!

While I can't really complain about "winter" in this part of the country, it has been nice to see a few reminders that spring is here.  Cael has been practicing his egg-gathering skills for his upcoming egg hunts.

Zac and Cael got to work on the vegetable garden.  They built the frame and prepped the space.

Cael smoothed out the dirt (and kept hydrated at the same time ... he's an excellent multi-tasker) ...

... and placed a few plants.

He even got in on the watering process.

The garden is off to a good start and we will definitely have more jalapenos than we will know what to do with this summer ... drop me a line if you need any!

It is also surely spring when turkey season arrives.  Cael was quite entertained by the decoys as Zac packed ...

... especially once he figured out that the turkey was an excellent stand-in horse.

Since Zac was out of town this weekend, we decided to spend a little time with animals as well.  If you find yourself between Oklahoma and DFW with toddlers in tow, the Frank Buck Zoo is truly amazing.  My parents came along as did my sweet nephew, Grayson.

We spent the morning visiting giraffes, zebras, tortoises, bears, and bison.  The boys happily took in the sights and had a good time exploring the zoo ... it was walkable for the little guys and they could see so much without needing to be carried around.

Cael's favorite animals appeared to be the goats although I think he would have been as equally excited about anything that he was allowed to feed.

The zoo was awesome but the fun didn't end there.  There is a huge park right outside the zoo with room to run and a giant play area to explore.  On top of that, there is also an adorable train that runs around the park ... what more could two train enthusiast toddlers ask for?  We topped off the day with a picnic lunch and one final run through the play area.

It was a beautiful opening weekend for spring ... but maybe not for the turkeys :)

Cael is TWO!!!

I cannot imagine any greater instant benchmarking than following the timeline of your child's life.  The instant comparisons between weeks, then months and finally years of life are mind-blowing when matched up against the sweet little life that is unfolding before your eyes.

Zac and I have marvelled at our toddler as his second birthday approached.  We've loved, learned and stretched so much in his lifetime and we are grateful for the beautiful course our life has taken with the addition of our littlest family member.

The wild and crazy road has been exhillarating as we watched this sleepy little guy ...

grow into this loving, smart, funny, busy, happy 2 year old.

We've had a lot of fun celebrating Cael's birthday over a couple of weeks.  We hosted family and friends for a little party before his actual birth date.  Cael loved the balloons ...

... and the pinata contents ...

... and the cupcakes ...

 ... especially the cupcakes!

Did I mention that he loved the balloons?

The balloons were the gift that kept giving before breakfast the next day ...

... and while playing in his tent.

Even Scrappy got in on the balloon action (although she did not let it distract her from monitoring Cael's snack).

Cael got the hang of presents at Christmas so he was quite excited to open a few gifts on his big day.

He thoroughly checked out his new loot ... reading a book ...

... testing out his new vehicles ...

... and breaking in his suitcase.

He is already showing signs of being a very efficient packer, just like mom and dad!

Cael's birthday was topped off with meatloaf (a big time favorite for Cael) and then ice cream.

And maybe a cookie or two!

Celebrating our little guy was a lot of fun and we're excited (and only slightly terrified) to see what excitement lies ahead for our 2 year old!
